Finalizing an adoption is a major milestone, but it's not the end of the adoption process.
It takes time for
adoptive families to build the bonds of love
and trust that birth families can take for granted.
Along the way, there will be challenges to face.
Colorado's County Departments of Human Services
or Social Services offer several post-adoptive
services for you and your child.
These services vary in each county, but can include:
- Visits from your adoption
caseworker
- Social activities for adoptive
families
- "Buddy" families
or mentors
- Support groups
- Individual or family counseling
- Respite care
Colorado has also partnered
with The Adoption Exchange to provide a post-adoption
resource center for families who have adopted
children through the public child welfare
system. You can access further information
about this resource by going to adoptex.org
and clicking on “Post-Adoption Center.”
